25 years and 3 days ago Madonna published her 3rd album of her career: TRUE BLUE. It was June, 30th of 1986. This is surely a masterpiece of her, so different from her previous albums "Madonna" and "Like a Virgin", "True Blue" is more mature and more pop oriented, and also more joyful and positive than her following album "Like a Prayer". The album includes some of her most famous songs: Open Your Heart, Live to Tell, La Isla Bonita, Papa don't Preach and True Blue (dedicated to her first husband Sean Penn and that she never performed live again after the divorce in 1987). It's incredible how after 25 years listening to this album it's still a pure pleasure. It's so fresh, strong and joyful and it's truly empowering if you listen to it in the morning before going to work. My favorite song of the album is Open Your Heart (track #2). Her voice is so magically confident and fragile at the same time either in the lower parts and in the higher parts of the song and I think that the music is so catchy that it's impossible not to sing and dance with her. The video is the first one in which Madonna collaborates with the french director and photographer Jean Baptiste Mondino (director of other more recent Madonna's video... Human Nature, Don't Tell Me and Hollywood) and it's very famous for her dance routine with the black chair (for which Britney Spears was accused of plagiarism when she released her "Stronger" video). The song is also used at the very beginning of Britney Spears' first movie Crossroads when Britney pays a tribute to the mother and queen of Pop Music. The magic of the video is not only related to the very good coreography but also to the artistic references of which this video is full (the Tamara De Lempicka portraits and the photography which reminds me of the old Playboy covers). Plus, another fascinating concept coming from this video is the rebalancing of roles and idea of the woman-object (Madonna as a peep-show dancer) which, despire all the apparences, is the only one real powerful subject of the story which determines all the the moves and the reaction of the other characters.
Still: a great MASTERPIECE that cannot be missed! :-)
